WATER SUPPLY


Lakes, rivers and lift irrigation are mainly used for the purposes of water supply in Gondia district.

The number of lakes in the district is so large that this district is known as 'Lake district' of Maharashtra State. Chorkhamara, Bodalkasa, Khadbanda, Sangrampur, Navegaon Bandh, Umarjhari, Sirpar, Rengepar, Managad, Chulband, etc. are the important lakes in the district.

The Itiyadoh dam has been built across the river Gadhvi. It is the biggest dam in the district. There are dams on the Bagh river at Shirpur, Pujari Tola and Kalisarad.

Water is supplied through pipes to Gondia, Tirora and other cities. Water is supplied to other places from rivers, lakes and wells. The district has tube-wells.
