SECTION - III - LABOUR ORGANISATION

As the district is is industrially backward, the growth of trade unionism is also very slow and of recent origin. The origin of the trade union movement in the district can be traced when the registration of the trade unions first started under the Indian Trade Union Act of 1926. The chief industries in the district are rice mills, bidi making, oil-mills, printing presses,  etc. Most of the unions in the district were organized by workers engaged in bidi making and the services of the State and Local bodies.
